If you are a new reader to my blog welcome!! Please consider following my blog. I have loved doing the GIVEAWAY (find it here) so much with Sew Mama Sew I plan to do more giveaways from time to time. Check back soon!
I know it’s a crazy time of year to completely sort out my sewing studio but when it takes just as long to find my supplies as it would to complete the project there is something wrong! My studio was in a sad, sad state and I was desperate to restore order.
Every so often I refold all my fabric and nicely stack it back in the cupboards but it always works it’s way back to a state of chaos and it never seems to work for long. Nothing puts a damper on my creativity quite like 5 yards of fabric falling on my head as I open the cupboard.
For the past few years at Quilt Festival in Houston I’ve had my eye on these fabric organizers. I know of two different options which you can find HERE and HERE. There may be others. I would really love to invest in these someday but for now it just cuts into my fabric budget so I opted to go GREEN!
I loaded up on empty fabric bolts at JoAnn’s on Black Friday. I ended up going back two more times and getting more. They are folded over at the top and bottom of the bolt, meeting up in the center. I cut them in half and then cut the ends off with a box cutter. The result was 4 pieces of heavy cardboard just the right size to wrap your 45 inch fabric.
I folded the fabric lengthwise by folding the fold edge over to meet the selvages . After wrapping each mini bolt I fastened the fabric with a small head pin.
They fit perfectly in my cupboard and now I’ll be able to find just what I need without pulling everything out of the cupboard. I really think this is the system that is going to keep me organized. I still want to buy the plastic organizers sometime because they are acid free and would be better for my fabric, but for now I think this will work beautifully!
So, what should I make next?
