I have a dear friend that had a sweet baby boy 2 months ago. I’m ashamed to say that I’m just getting around to sewing for him. I’m pretty pleased with the results though and even more pleased to finish before he’s half grown. I recently acquired a Little Gracie II quilt frame that works well with my Janome Memory Craft 6600 sewing machine. I found the frame on Craigslist and it came with a Sure Stitch regulator. Unfortunately, it was originally purchased for a Brother and wouldn’t work with my Janome. I decided to call the Grace Company and see if they would just sell me the regulator box to work with my machine since I wouldn’t need all the sensors and the hand control buttons. They agreed and gave me a sweet deal. When it arrived I got everything plugged in and decided to work on a practice piece. THIS is my practice piece!
Everything played nicely together and I was able to stipple the entire piece in about an hour. I will be selling my Flynn Frame. Don’t get me wrong. I actually liked the Flynn Frame especially for smaller pieces, but I seem to be doing larger and larger quilts. It is possible to quilt a large quilt on the Flynn but it takes substantial wrestling of the frame to get the job done. It was nice to easily maneuver the machine instead of the entire quilt.
I decided that furry fleece would MAKE this little quilt special and I was not disappointed. All my girls want me to make them quilts with the same binding. It’s so silky soft. I don’t know that I will do it again though, at least not often. It was actually quite a mess to work with. When you cut it microscopic fibers are sent floating through the air. I felt like I was breathing them in and they got into my contact lenses and irritated my eyes.
When the project was complete the vacuum was required to get it all cleaned up. Now that it’s finished and all the raw edges are sewn into the seams it has stopped shedding. Thank goodness. I was a little worried about giving it to a baby but I think it will be fine now.
Of course I had to make some personalized burp cloths to match. Welcome to the world baby Grey!
